Saphlux

Saphlux aims to commercialize an innovative semipolar GaN/sapphire substrate technology to produce a high efficiency and low cost LED developed by Professor Jung Han. After six years of research, Dr. Han’s Nitride group lighted the world’s first manufacturable semi-polar LED wafer. Semi-polar LED has been theoretically and experimentally proven to have much higher efficiency and much less droop than conventional c-plane LEDs. The success of the semi-polar technology will enable the next revolution in LED industry: reducing light bulb prices from $10 to $1, enabling high power LED applications, and introducing an energy efficient portable LED projector.Saphlux received a funding infusion of more than $1 million that will enable the company to build a prototype of the semi-polar technology. ZhenFund, a Beijing-based angel investor firm, led this seed round. The fund was co-founded by Sequoia Capital China, Victor Wang Qiang, and Bob Xu Xiaoping.
